Getaway trip to Palma de Mallorca

As many of you already know, we made a quick visit on last week to Palma de Mallorca. Thanks to my in-laws, we had a chance to travel as a couple and Luca stayed in Madrid having quality time with his grandparents. Win-win situation I would say 😉 . It wasn’t the first time for us in Palma, but I’ve been there one day 15 years ago and my husband had been there for work, so it was more or less an unknown destination for both of us.

We stayed at hotel Catalonia Majorica, which was a perfect choice for us this time traveling as a couple. For three people it would have been a bit cramped. Overlooking Mallorca’s Palma Bay, this hotel featured both outdoor and inside pool and small gym. A large sun terrace with a poolside bar was really nice and the breakfast was super with something for everyone. Palma’s historic centre and shops were within 2 km, so we went everywhere by walking.

The biggest reason for this trip wasn’t a romantic getaway, nope, it was Atletico playing against RCD Mallorca at the Son Moix Stadium. It actually was a lot of fun to be at away team’s supporter section and surrounded by all the Atletico fans (+ dozens of policemen) singing and supporting our own. Los Rojiblancos had a strong spirit and unity during the whole match and as the end result was 0-2, we all could return back home with smiles on our faces.

Palma city was as great and beautiful as I remembered. Even though Palma de Mallorca is known for its sun and beach tourism, it also has an attractive historic quarter. It also shelters a seemingly endless array of galleries, craft studios, restaurants and bars. Every day, we walked around the city and had cold drinks here and delicious dinners there. We saw a lot, but I definitely want to come back some day, rent a car and discover this beautiful island more.

And because food is always really important part of our trips, I want to share some restaurant tips with you: For brunch and lunch I would suggest you go to Santosha (Carrer del Metge Matas 2). Everything was really fresh and tasty and made of seasonal products. Also place called Beatnik (Carrer de Montenegro 12) is a worth of visit for a lunch or dinner: Trendy place with a fabulous vibe and the food was to die for. The food had excellent quality and totally different flavors from the other places we ate at Palma. The Boat House at the harbour (Avenida de Gabriel Roca 33) is open all day and we had an extempore dinner there, which surprised us totally. Great chill out bar, beautiful place by the sea, relaxed atmosphere, amazing drinks, delicious food and great staff. What else can you ask for!

See you soon Palma,

Sanna
