8 Reasons to Fall in Love With Smoothies

I have a confession to make. I’m in love, deeply in love with smoothies. Since we got our Vitamix blender on Christmas 2013, I have used it every day. Seriously, every single day excluding the days, when we’ve been traveling, and even then, I usually have had my hand blender with me. Smoothies just have everything, what I can wish for a quick and nutritious snack. And they are so yummy, almost like a dessert.

Also when you make your own smoothies, you can help prevent mature fruits from going to waste, while providing numerous health benefits, which will lead you towards healthier life style!




Here are my 8 reasons to fall in love with smoothies:

Fast Food option. Firstly, smoothies are real fast food and can be used as a meal replacement. You just throw ingredients of your choice in a blender, let it run for a while and done! It doesn’t take as long as preparing most meals, and you can always take a smoothie with you to enjoy it later. And for to make it even more faster, I always have pre chopped fruits and berries waiting in a freezer, so I don’t have to use my time for peeling (peel only fruits like oranges to get all the nutrients!) and chopping them.

Get your daily greens. For some people consuming the daily recommendations of fruits and veggies (5-9 servings/day) can be challenging. When you add some veggies in your fruit based smoothie, the taste of them will be hidden by the taste of fruits. I’ll promise that you (or your husband or kids 😉 ) don’t even notice the green things in your drink!

Skip the multivitamin tablets. Making a smoothie is a tasty way to get all of those vital nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, folate and potassium, of course depending on what you put in your smoothie. Vary the ingredients as often as possible. Drinking a glass every day will provide you with all the vitamins you need, which is a much cheaper (and more natural) option than buying multivitamins.

You’ll get fibers easily. The daily recommended intake of fiber is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men, and while drinking fruit (and veggie of course) packed smoothies, you’ll reach your goal without noticing it. Normally one serving of fruit contains two to four grams of fiber, and if you are looking for the easiest way to fill your recommended intake, lean towards apples, pears and blackberries. They have the highest concentration of fiber, from five to seven grams per serving! The fiber in smoothies will help you to ease the burden on your digestive system, because your blender has already done “the chewing” for you. It also helps you to control your blood sugar and may lower cholesterol.





Get your daily proteins. Smoothies are a great way to get the proteins you’ll need every day. You can add almost any protein sources in your smoothies without noticing it. Your smoothie may taste like apple pie in a glass if you want to, but you won’t get that amount of protein in a slice of Grandma’s famous dessert. By adding protein in your smoothie, it’s easier for your body to regulate appetite, and build muscles. Try different kind of dairy products, plant based milks, protein powders (with a flavour if you want some extra taste), seeds, nuts or chickpeas, for example.

Fats for your brain and body functioning. Good fats are required for biological functions and are burned by your body for energy. A truly healthy smoothie should have some dietary fat for the body to use in assimilating the vitamins. When you choose wisely the ingredients in your smoothie, you can easily get a variety of essential fatty acids. Adding a little fat can also make the smoothie more satisfying and keep you energized a long time. Try different kind of nuts and seeds, coconut or flaxseed oil, avocado or nut butters.

Charge your workout. Do you want a little push to get you through your next workout? Have a smoothie! Smoothies are a great option to provide your body with the nutrients and energy it needs during workout, and to rebuild muscles and recover after you’re done. The nutrients in smoothies are easier and faster for your body to absorb and assimilate as opposed to a typical meal.

Lose weight. Smoothies are an easy way to get bunch of nutrients, which you’ll need to lose weight safely and easily without feeling like you are starving. Also when you make them by using qualified ingredients, they’ll help you to reduce craving for sugary junk foods. Replace your morning toast and cereals with a smoothie, and I’ll promise, that you’ll notice the difference in your mood and body (and in weight!) quite quickly. The most effective weight-loss smoothies are made with just a few ingredients – greens, whole fruits and veggies. Try for example to make a smoothie, which includes cucumber, celery, oranges, lemon juice, spirulina powder, chia seeds and spinach.

And lets not forget the super delicious taste of smoothies! Smoothies can be almost like a dessert, if you just choose the right ingredients. Mix, match and play with them, the most unexpected combos can be the winners!
