What’s a Health Coach?

“What do you do for a living?” “I’m a Health Coach.” “A health what? Say again.”

Yep, that’s me! Nine times out of ten this is how the conversation goes, when I tell people that I’m a Health Coach. They have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about! However, Health Coaches are popping more and more in clinics and doctors’ offices, gyms, rehabilitation centers and private practices almost in every country.

A Health Coach will take the time to listen to your concerns, help you discover the main reason where and why you are struggling, and help you to figure out exactly what works for your mind and body!

In a nutshell, Health Coach supports clients to achieve their health goals (they vary from weight loss, to de-stressing, tobacco cessation and gaining energy, to improving nutrition and even helping with sleeplessness, for example), through lifestyle and behavior modifications. During the process, the client is a factor, and the one who acts, and the Health Coach only leads the way and assists over the difficulties:

  • We are trained to help you set and work towards achieving your personal health and wellness goals.
  • Health coaches have, for example, expertise in nutrition, exercise, mentoring and stress management.
  • Because the whole process happens through lifestyle and behavior adjustments, achieving the results may take a while, but they are more permanent than, for example, fast weight loss diet results.
  • We work with both individuals and groups, so everyone is sure to find a favorite way to work!

    And what a health coach is not?

    • Health Coach is not a doctor; we don’t diagnose conditions or prescribe medications, and we don’t have the rights to change the client’s existing medication.
    • Health Coach doesn’t promote one specific type of diet (or at least they shouldn’t!), or one specific way of eating.
    • Health Coach doesn’t do the job for you, we are there for to guide and support you.
    • Also it’s good to remember that many Health Coaches aren’t personal trainers, but most of them have all the knowledge and skills to help you with physical training.

     

    Everyone is unique and different, and that’s the reason why everything doesn’t work for everyone. A Health Coach will take the time to listen to your concerns, help you discover the main reason where and why you are struggling, and help you to figure out exactly what works for your mind and body!
