Chocolate hummus

Chocolate and Valentine’s day go hand in hand and giving a heart shaped box of chocolate for your loved ones is a traditional sign that you care. But does it always have to be chocolate you give to them? Maybe you should try something healthier, but still super delicious on this Valentine’s day 😉 .

Hummus, that is made of healthy chickpeas that are full of fiber and also protein, is commonly known as a salty spread and it has nothing to do with dessert or sweet breakfast. Well, what if I told you, that this rich, creamy, and chocolatey Chocolate Hummus is just perfect treat for Valentine’s day, and what’s even better, it really is healthy and offers a bunch of nutrients. Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it!

So, surprise your loved ones on this Valentine’s day and make them this mouthwatering chocolate spread, that actually is a real superfood <3 .

 

 

 

 
Ingredients:
5 dl cooked, unsalted chickpeas
3-4 tablespoons unsweetened (raw)cocoa powder (use 3 tbsp if you like “milk chocolate” hummus, and more if you want “dark chocolate” hummus)
2 tablespoons peanut butter or almond butter (optional, you can also skip it if you don’t want or can’t eat nuts)
4 tbsp honey or maple syrup (also dried dates work as a sweetener, use approx. 5 big ones)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 – 1dl soymilk, vanilla flavored (or any other milk you prefer)
(a dash of salt, optional)

 

 
Instructions:
• In a blender or in a food processor, combine all the ingredients except soy milk. Puree until the mixture is smooth.
• Add first 1/2 dl of soy milk and continue adding 1 tbsp at a time to create the desired consistency. Taste the chocolate hummus and add more sweetener if desired.
• Place chocolate hummus into the fridge for 30-60 minutes before serving.
• Serve with fresh fruit, berries, crackers, or on top of your favorite bread.

Chocolate hummus lasts for about four days in the fridge, but we usually eat it before that 😉 .
